Local Kids Sharpen Their Speaking Skills At The GWCC Oratorical Contest

Students Earn Cash Prizes and Gain Valuable Communication Skills

The George Washington Carver Community Enrichment Center (GWCCEC) is an organization that provides vocational and educational training. GWCCEC held its first Oratorical Contest in 2016. Our annual Oratorical Contest is one of the many opportunities given to those interested in sharing their public speaking skills. Through this contest, young people are given the opportunity to develop and utilize their skills in public speaking, as well as, increase their confidence and self-esteem. Contestants are judged using an established set of criteria and themes.

Past participants in the GWCC Oratoracle Contest have broadened their communication skills as well as earned cash prizes.

This yearly event affords all students in grades 6 – community college level an opportunity to participate. Students must be permanent residents of Randolph County. For this competition, topics could include but are not limited to education, social justice, career aspirations, community service, body image, social media, reflections on individual experiences, scientific innovations, etc. Although the topic options are limitless, the GWCCEC Oratorical Committee would like to see a quote from George Washington worked into the narrative.

This event will be held on March 26, 2023, at 2:30 pm at the Clyde L. Foust Community Center. Please mark your calendar. If you have questions or if you are interested in participating, please contact Vanessa Brooks at 336-301-6822 or wssu78@yahoo.com.
