Asheboro, NC – High school students across Randolph County are invited to showcase their public speaking talents at the George Washington Carver Community Enrichment Center (GWCCEC) Speech Competition on Sunday, March 23, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. This event, designed to cultivate confidence and self-esteem among youth, encourages students to express their thoughts on topics they are passionate about while incorporating powerful words from George Washington Carver himself.
How to Participate
Students in grades 9-12 who are permanent residents of Randolph County are eligible to compete. Contestants must submit their intent to participate via this Google Form by March 10, 2025. Additionally, final drafts of speeches must be submitted electronically by March 17, 2025.
On the day of the competition, speakers should arrive by 2:30 p.m. to prepare for their presentations.

Speech Guidelines
- Speeches must be 4-6 minutes long
- Plagiarism and AI-generated content are strictly prohibited
- Contestants may speak on any topic they are passionate about, including education, social justice, career aspirations, community service, social media, and more
- Each speech must include a quote from George Washington Carver, such as:
- “Education is the key to unlock the golden door of freedom.”
- “When you do the common things in life in an uncommon way, you will command the attention of the world.”
Judging & Prizes
A panel of at least three judges will evaluate contestants based on:
✔ Speech Content (originality, structure, logic)
✔ Delivery (intonation, pacing, engagement)
✔ Poise (confidence, body language)
✔ Overall Effectiveness (impact and appeal)
The top three winners will receive:
🏆 1st Place – $750
🥈 2nd Place – $500
🥉 3rd Place – $300
All participants will receive a certificate of recognition.
