The George Washington Carver Community Enrichment Center is proud to announce that five exceptional members of the Randolph County community will receive the prestigious Community Angels Award on September 22, 2024, at 4:00 PM. This honor celebrates individuals who have demonstrated extraordinary dedication to service and improving the lives of others.

Kenita Matthews-White
A true servant of God, Kenita Matthews-White runs the homeless ministry Grace Given and is the manager at Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen. Through her ministry, she provides vital support to those in need, embodying the spirit of compassion and service.

Katie Snuggs
Katie Snuggs has been a civil rights pioneer in Randolph County for over 60 years. She was an active participant in the sit-in movement of the 1960s and later became the first African-American woman to serve on the Asheboro City Council, continuing her advocacy for equality and justice.

Betty Foust
Betty Foust, alongside her late husband Clyde, was a trailblazer as the first African-Americans to own a business in downtown Asheboro. She remains an active force in the community today, serving as a board member for the George Washington Carver Community Enrichment Center and as an owner of Gailes Funeral Home Inc.

Bishop David Miller & Pastor Gale Miller
Leaders of Christ Fellowship Ministries Cathedral, Bishop David Miller, and Pastor Gale Miller have been instrumental in serving the community. They operate a local food bank that provides food to hundreds of families offering spiritual guidance and tangible support to their neighbors.

Susie Scott
Known as a living encyclopedia of Randolph County politics, Susie Scott has tirelessly fought for causes that matter to the community. She has led efforts to remove the countyβs Confederate monument and has worked to increase diversity in local government, advocating for fairness and inclusion.
